The problem
The QR code solved a 2020 problem and created a new one. Camera, focus, accept cookies, wait — a diner sitting down to eat wants to read the menu, not operate a device.
The solution
MesaVIP uses geolocation to detect that a customer is at a registered venue and shows that venue’s menu on their phone. No scanning, no download, no sign-up.
In detail
The venue registers its location and menu from an admin panel. After that there’s nothing else to do: the menu updates when they change it, and customers always see the current version.
It’s in a pilot phase with real venues, deliberately chosen with multiple floors, terraces and immediate neighbours, because those are the cases where geolocation is genuinely tested.
QR codes stay in place during the pilot. The question that decides the product isn’t whether it works — it’s whether the owner would be willing to remove them.
